Sudan-Born Wing Eltayeb Eltayeb Commits to Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech has added a new Africa-connected name to its 2026 recruiting class, with 6-foot-8 wing Eltayeb Eltayeb committing to the Hokies. Gobbler Country reported that Eltayeb is a native of Sudan who played last season at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas, where he averaged 21.3 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting better than 43 percent from three.
The commitment gives Mike Young's staff a freshman upside swing in a roster cycle otherwise shaped heavily by transfer-portal additions. Eltayeb was identified in the commitment post as a Prep All-American and a high-upside prospect, and Gobbler Country noted that he is Virginia Tech's first freshman addition for 2026-27.
For Meta Africa Sports, the key piece is the pathway. Eltayeb's move from Sudan to Sunrise Christian and now into the ACC is another example of African-born prospects using U.S. prep basketball as a bridge to high-major college opportunities. His frame is still developing, but the combination of wing size, shooting touch and late physical growth gives Virginia Tech a long-term piece worth tracking closely.
